Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams CBET 2176 (Daniel W. E. Green,

ed.) announces the discovery by Hideo Nishimura, Miyawaki, Kakegawa,

Shizuoka-ken, Japan, of a probable nova (confirmed in CBET 2179). Discovery

was Feb. 18.845 UT at magnitude 9.4, on two 13-s frames using a Minolta

120-mm f/3.5 lens and a Canon EOS 5D Digital camera mounted on a Takahashi

EM100 equatorial telescope. After posting on the Central Bureau's

unconfirmed-objects webpage, confirmation of the new object was reported by

several observers, some of whom also gave very slightly differing position

end figures.

 

Coordinates: R.A. = 17:26:32.19 Decl. = -28:49:36.3 (+/- 4")(2000.0)

measured by S. Nakano on H. Nishimura's image

 

According to CBET 2179 (Green), spectroscopy by K. Imamura and K. Tanabe,

Okayama University of Science, Japan, obtained on Feb. 19.850 UT indicates

that the object is a classical nova. Also, spectroscopy by M. Fujii,

Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan, on Feb. 19.86 is a "Fe II class" nova.
