Back in the 1980's there was an infrastructure to launch Space Shuttle missions from Vandenberg. That was scrapped and no shuttle launches ever took place, much to my dismay as I would have loved to have seen that view. For those that may be interested in the Vandenberg launches, there is a site that provides information and video of past launches and also streams live video of new launches.
