Televue Ethos 8mm

I just learned that a new Televue 8mm ETHOS eyepiece was unveiled at Neaf.

 

I believe is will be called the new Ethos GR8

 

Here is what Televue said:

 

At NEAF 2008 we are pleased to demonstrate a new 8mm focal length, 100° AFOV Ethos eyepiece. In addition to matching all the key performance criteria of its 13mm sibling, the new 8mm version is parfocal in 1¼" focusers with Radians, Plössls, Type 6 Naglers and 1¼" Panoptics. Further, its lighter weight and smaller diameter than the 13mm Ethos makes the 8mm suitable for anyone using a binocular viewer. Another application is for spotting scope set-ups with the Tele Vue 60° 1¼" diagonal. In comparing it to our 8–24mm Zoom eyepiece, the 8mm Ethos has the power of the 8mm Zoom and 83% of the field of the 24mm setting!

8mm Ethos on Binoviewer

Hi Frank,

 

Yeah, Al keeps churning out new eyepieces. What else can he do. At least they are all quality items and gives us an great excuse to dig deeper into our wallets. The new 13mm Ethos sounds like it is something that I would like to look through on a 20-inch dob while viewing a globular star cluster or some galaxies. Years ago I viewed M13 and M31 through an original 13mm Nagler on a 24-inch scope. The view blew your socks off.

The new 8mm must be great too. I am curious as to how the Moon will look through this one. Probably similar to the Apollo film footage taken from lunar orbit.

 

So, when do you take delivery of your two 8mm GR8's (Great)'s?

Hey Fred,

Rumour has it that Televue is now planning a whole series of the Ethos line.

 

Hopefully I will ge a chance to look through the new 8mm Ethos when it becomes available.
