Nishiyama, Kurume, Fukuoka-ken, and F. Kabashima, Miyaki-cho, Saga-ken -- H. Nishimura, Kakegawa, Shizuoka-ken -- K. Haseda, Toyohashi, Aichi; via H. Yamaoka, Kyushu University Discovery Date: 2008 May 25 (JD 2454612) Discovery Magnitude: approximately 10.2 (visual estimate) Position: R.A. = 17h 39m 50.93s ; Decl. = -23o 50' 00.9" (J2000) by K. Nishiyama and F. Kabashima Charts: Finder charts for this object may be plotted by entering thecoordinates above into VSP: http://www.aavso.org/observing/charts/vsp/There are a few existing comparison stars to the southeast of the variable on a C-scale chart; more comparison stars will be added as soon as a sequence has become available. Notes: Multiple confirmations were reported after the object was posted on theCBAT unconfirmed objects webpage. Observations of the field prior tothe current outburst indicated no object visible at those coordinates,the faintest of which (UK Schmidt Telescope red plates, checked byE. Guido and G. Sostero, Remanzacco, Italy) showed no object down to20th magnitude on 1991 August 11. Several observations published in the IAU Circular suggest the novahas remained relatively constant at its discovery magnitude, remainingaround m(vis) ~ 10.2.
