All I did was set my Canon Rebel XT on my SUV's dash (with a rolled up hand towel propping up the lens) and then set my TC80N3 intervalometer to shoot 1 frame per second. It was a very simple setup!

 

The lens and white balance and exposure all need to be manual, or you will see flickering and other problems. Typically with a sunset shot, you start out with the frames being overexposed one or two stops, so that as the sun goes down, the exposure stays in the ballpark.

 

Shooting this with a video camera would be different (and easier), as you could probably just roll with auto-exposure. I'm not sure if you would see big jumps in the light or shutter speed.
