Fred Ley Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 21, 2010 Συγγραφέας Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 21, 2010 Over the years so much different equipment comes and goes on the market that at times it can be hard to recall what is what. Do you know who is the owner of the 4-inch scope? If they are in the Athens area, I would be very interested in seeing it up close. -Fred www.instrumentsoflight.com - www.ras.org.ukwww.avastronomyclub.org - www.aavso.org (LEF)www.imca.cc (#9181)www.alpo-astronomy.orgAstrovox Member #4.Doing astronomy since 1970Sky & Tel subscriber since 1971www.highdeserttelescopes.com

eliasg2004 Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Sorry to pop in like that... I would also love to have a close encounter with one of these ...
Βασίλης_Μ Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Sorry to pop in too, but the funny thing is that I was searching the web for unitrons, past and present and suddenly your photos and Fred's comments appeared. I am amazed by these telescopes and I am a huge fan of Unitron refractors. The thing is that as a piece of art (they are art.... ) they must be treasured and have the luxury of owning one just for the fun of it.... Have fun Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Arthur C. Clarke http://vip-digital-imaging.blogspot.com

Fred Ley Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Συγγραφέας Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Unbeknownst to many, Unitrons are my favorite instruments. Over the years I have collected every different Unitron catalog that was published in the US. That only amounts to five main catalogs from the mid 50's to the 90's. I have my first telescope which is a 2.4-inch Polarex/Unitron that was purchased as an Alt-Azimuth model here in athens in April of 1971, 39 years ago next month. I eventually added the equatorial mount, clock drive, rotary eyepiece holder, 40mm eyepiece, 7mm eyepiece, uniclamp camera bracket, Herschel Solar Wedge, Unibalance Tube Assembly, Astro Camera and Sun Screen. I have a few other Unitron accessories that are used with the 6-inch Cave refractor. I certainly consider them as works of art too. They look just "perfect" to me. I will post some mor eimages to my personal album for you to enjoy. Pop in anytime, that is what this site is all about. -Fred www.instrumentsoflight.com - www.ras.org.ukwww.avastronomyclub.org - www.aavso.org (LEF)www.imca.cc (#9181)www.alpo-astronomy.orgAstrovox Member #4.Doing astronomy since 1970Sky & Tel subscriber since 1971www.highdeserttelescopes.com

Fred Ley Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 Συγγραφέας Δημοσιεύτηκε Μάρτιος 22, 2010 I am familiar with that site, thanks.Yes, the site belongs to an instructor at Cal State University at Northridge, just South of where I live. I have a lot of what is posted on his site, and the majority of what I have I don't see posted on his site. I have been scanning my 40 year collection of catalogs and would like to turn it into a large encyclopedia for research depicting the progression of instrument making over the years. I have, at the latest count, made 2,919 scans of material. I still have quite a ways to go. I have uploaded a few more Unitron images to my personal photo page here on Astrovox, if interested. -Fred www.instrumentsoflight.com - www.ras.org.ukwww.avastronomyclub.org - www.aavso.org (LEF)www.imca.cc (#9181)www.alpo-astronomy.orgAstrovox Member #4.Doing astronomy since 1970Sky & Tel subscriber since 1971www.highdeserttelescopes.com
