Herbig-haro Objects In The Pelican Nebula

The Pelican Nebula contains what are known as Herbig-Haro objects. These are patches of nebulosity associated with new stars, which shoot out narrow jets of gas that collide with adjacent clouds of dust. These ejections are aligned with the star''s rotational axis.

This is a magnified view of a region of the Pelican Nebula that contains several groups of Herbig-Haro (HH) Objects. HH 555 is the clearest example of a Herbig-Haro object in the Pelican Nebula. In this image detail you can easily see the jet shooting out of the tip of the pillar indicating the presence of an unseen protostar.
