On August 28, 2026, the Moon passed through Earth’s shadow, creating a partial lunar eclipse. This occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align closely enough for Earth to block part of the sunlight that normally illuminates the Moon. As the Moon moved through the darker region of Earth’s shadow, known as the umbra, part of its surface appeared noticeably darker. The event offered a striking example of celestial mechanics in action, revealing the precise and predictable movements of the Earth-Moon-Sun system.
