I guess that means either we are very scary, creeping around like the deador we are as white as a ghost.Either way, both descriptions are probably quite accurate! Well, Frank, regarding your first description, I have no words to say… Talking about the second one, I proudly present you the… cure: “The famous, unforgettable, always there, greek SUN”! Welcome to astrovox Dave!
Στέφανος Σοφολόγης Δημοσιεύτηκε Ιούλιος 14, 2008 Δημοσιεύτηκε Ιούλιος 14, 2008 Stefanos, Was it you who had that fab Baader binoviewer on the 10" Dob? That's an awesome piece of equipment and give me some of my best views of Jupiter I've ever seen. Nice ! I was seriously impressed with the way you modified the scope to work with it. I'm thinking of getting such a binoviewer for my own scope, but don't fancy cutting off 3+ inches off the truss poles, at that stage I'd start loosing the outer areas of the primary mirror.Yep, that Stefanos was me! I'm glad you enjoyed Jupiter. We were lucky enough that night to have a good seeing (a bit unusual for Parnon), so many Jovian features became easily visible. That view of the king of planets was simply "ok" though, compared to the views that this set up (10" + bino) has offered two or three years ago when Jupiter used to climb quite high and was seen through exceptional seeing. But binoviewers still remain somewhat underestimated. To put it in another way, amateur astronomers can be divided in two groups: Those who are a bit skeptical about the advantages of using a bino and those who have actually looked once through one! Simple as that. Solar system observing will never be the same again for someone that decides to own a good binoviewer. There is no turning back! The big improvement of detail perception and realism will always be missed each time you try to observe with single eyepiece. About the cutting of the truss poles of your telescope: you won't need to cut them more than 1.5 inches if your focuser already has a few cm of back-focus because the dedicated 2" "glass-path and coma corrector" (Baader) compensates for most of the needed back-focus (and also compensates superbly for coma and any residual chromatic abberation of the prisms). Try the modification without fear, a 20 incher should deserve it! I'll be glad to help you if I can. Greek Skies to Ireland! "Πως να σωπάσω μέσα μου την ομορφιά του κόσμου; ..." Dave, Greetings from Montreal Canada and Welcome to Astrovox. I just want to add that depending on the height of your focuser you may not need to do any alterations to the Truss poles of your telescope. I would try the Binos (stock as is) and you will find that you may be able to come to focus. It also depends on what eyepieces you plan on using as some require more in-travel than others. One of the guys I know uses the Denk II binos and a set of Pan 24s, what a killer setup. Cheers. PapGeo Δημοσιεύτηκε Ιούλιος 14, 2008 Δημοσιεύτηκε Ιούλιος 14, 2008 Hey Frank, I saw in your Irish astronomical site the posts about your leg. Bad luck my friend. But, consider this: On Parnon mountain we have only some mosquitoes, that with little precautions we take, we usually stay unharmed. Take a look at our american friends, what they are dealing with in many remote – unpolluted - places; even with wild animals, snakes etc. They even have to put small fences around them, in order to be secure during observations. I hope your leg will clears up soon. Dave! Nice signature! (“Carrying around the 20" Obsession is going to kill me, but what a way to go!”) George

I have to say I'm now addicted to traveling to other countries andit's going to be the start of a life long obsession to observe /photographfrom as many of the good spots as I can. I'm seriously looking at the Atacama desert.A (no astronomical) friend was out there.....he's a lawyer! He was amazed with the skies. This is a place I must get to sometime!!!!

And the biting creatures must be somewhat larger there! I hope you get well very soon and return to full activity. Stefanos "Πως να σωπάσω μέσα μου την ομορφιά του κόσμου; ..." A (male) lawyer went there for vacation and it became a major issue! But, lawyers are ok, aren’t they? Edwin Hubble himself was a lawyer too… Did your friend visit any of the European Southern Observatory facilities?

As for me, I only wrote something about binos and truss poles a little further above! It's ok, we 're all made out from the same stardust so we look alike! Stefanos P.S. vtsamis Δημοσιεύτηκε Ιούλιος 16, 2008 Δημοσιεύτηκε Ιούλιος 16, 2008 Stefanos, I strongly disagree that we 're all made out from the same stardust. Some guys seem to be privileged enough to have more carbon atoms in their genome than average. This carbon excess causes a syndrome called "Addiction to Red". A known side-effect is serial production of excell files. eg: Yannis EffREDidis! ____________________________ закрытый для отпусков.
