    Eyes Galaxies

Hi George, Ah, images of galaxies, one of my favorite things to look at through a telescope. You sure did capture a few in your image. Real nice job. -Fred

    M 51 galaxy

Hey, This one looks real nice too. Good job. -Fred

    NGC 253. Reprocessed

Dimitri, Well this came out looking just excellent. It certainly gets the "Silver Dollar Award" from me. -Fred

    Saturn 05-03-2008

Hi Dimitri, When viewing your images, I would "drag" the image across my monitor to be able to discern any additional details. I did notice that there are a few small festoons in the STrZ -the South Tropical zone. I gather that south is at the top of your image? These are in the "brownish" area to be real simple in terms of a description. I also noticed that in the Northern Hemisphere, in the NTrZ -the North Tropical Zone, there appears to be two small white festoons. By moving the image, your eye should pick them up. Let me know what you think. There are pretty much on the disk's meridian. Let me know what you think. -Fred

    Saturn 28-02-2008

Hmmm.... I was begining to wonder why the planet changed size in such a short time. Its the old "switch the focal length" trick. And I thought that I had to go for a visit to the optometrist. -Fred -Oh yeah, nice images too. I prefer the f/20 one.
  6. Frank, In other words, "we have one happy camper". -Fred

    Hubble's var.nebula

So, this is the technicolor version of Hubble's Variable Nebula. It came out real nice and there is real nice detail in the nebulosity too. -Fred

    20" F/4.5

Great looking scope. It should give you a lifetime of use. The wooden touch looks nice and matches the house floor too. It looks quite at home sitting where it is. I hope to be able to attend some of these dark sky meets that are held when I pick up a vehicle and am able to meet many of you. Enjoy, -Fred
  9. Looks like you all are having a great time-that's what it is all about. -Fred

    Το όνειρό μου πραγματοποιήθηκε

Frank, Kudos, dude. You're gonna be one real happy observer. So, what object have you decided on for first light? Anyhow hope you have many clear and stable nights with the scope. Let me know what you see. There should be enough words in the dictionary to attempt a decription. Have Fun, Fred

    M 64. Black eye galaxy

Cool! This image came out real, real, nice. OK! So, like, what's next? -Fred
  12. Hi Spartiati, Enjoyed looking at your two images. The title "Sun & Ice" reminds me of a vinyl album that I have by the artist Vangellis Papathanasiou titled "Fire & Ice". I gather that you received a fair share of snow where you live. It was 27F (-3C) where I live, in Athens, this morning. -Fred

Galaxies M95 & M96 in Leo [Final Color]

Hi Antonios, Nice image you have there. One would conclude, from looking at a light pollution chart of Attica, that it would be next to impossible to obtain good deep sky images. But modern technology, being what it is, appears to have alllowed us to overcome that. -Fred

    NGC 7769-70-71 In Pegasus

Hi Dimitri, So, another Dimikolgr Astro Productions image. Hmmm.... Quite a few galaxies too. I count five, unless there are a few more lurking out there in the silent depths of space. -Fred

    California nebula

Hey Dimitri, Real nice image of the California Nebula. -Fred Hey Sevax, You are thinking of the song titled CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' by the Mamas & The Papas. Here are the lyrics. -Fred All the leaves are brown All the leaves are brown And the sky is grey And the sky is grey Ive been for a walk Ive been for a walk On a winters day On a winters day Id be safe and warm Id be safe and warm If I was in l.a. Telescope aristarxos and sky!!!

Hi Pascal, This is a nice wintry image with snow, blue skies and the observatory. I can see the skiers too. If I recall correctly, there is a ski center in the vicinity. Havn't made it up there yet, but hope to one day. -Fred

    AstroArt

Hi Andreas, I went ahead and signed up at this site. I noticed that they do not have a category for astronomical art, meaning art done on stretched canvas in acylic or oil paint. Maybe I get them to add that category. Thanks for the alert to the site. -Fred

    20" F4.5 Ολοκληρώθηκε

Hi George, I discovered this posting and noticed that you have links to the 20-inch here. I like the observatory design and the whole project shows that you put quite a bit of thought into it-both the telescope and the observatory. Having the observatory will definitely make life a lot easier and give you quicker access to the telescope. Who wants to spend hours setting up all the equipment everytime one wants to observe. It certainly gets old after a while. -Fred

    20" F4.5 done

Hi George, The scope looks great. One thing that I know is that you won't be running out of objects to look at for the next thousand years. By any chance do you have a web site showing the various stages of the construction of the telescope? Just asking as telescope making is a field that interests me. Anyhow, congratulations on a job well done. Now, where do I go to buy tickets to look through this thing? -Fred

    NGC 7479 Galaxy

Yeah, you gotta get a bigger and badder camera. Hey, I can even see a few background galaxies too. Real nice. Now to go and look at your other galaxy image. -Fred

    M 102

Hi Dimitri, Neat! I love the dust lane across the galaxy, looks real nice. I was wondering how the galaxy would look if you took the image at f/11 instead of f/6.3-you would have a slightly larger image. Fred
  23. Fred Ley

    M 81

Hey, This turned out nice, you can even see the dust lanes in the spiral too. So, what else do you have in your bag of tricks? -Fred

    Κατασκευή dobsonian 10''

Hi Dimitri, Well done and congratulations on building a fine instrument. I guess we will wait for your report on the night of "first light" and all the fun you will no doubt have from observing. -Fred

    Ζητείται Meade #909 APM

Ifikratis, The link to Teletrade that Elias gave you is a good one. Don has been going up to the Rivrside Telescope Makers Conference at Big Bear for years and displaying all the stuff that he has. He certainly has a lot of items. I was wondering if someone locally could check out the inside of your unit and see which electronic component has failed. One would conclude that it is simply a matter of replacing the worn out component. Of course you will need to find someone who could do the checking for you-that may be the hard part. -Fred
