Hi Antonios, I am certain that after fifteen years and coming to grips with the concept of shutting the site down was a decision not lightly reached. But look on the bright side of things. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun. I am certain that the presence of your site and what it offered, planted many little seeds in the field of astronomy and that those little seeds are sprouting and growing bigger day by day. We all have something to contribute as you most certainly have with your site. My hat is off to you for a job WELL DONE. Fred -

That is vary nice video. I saw, a few seconds into the play, that the ISS was heading south over California. The lights of the major cities are so clear and then we can see Baja California on the right. Nice. Fred

This postage stamp was issued in 1970 to commemorate the 150th anniversarry of the founding of the Royal Astronical Society. Depicted on the stamp, from left to right, are three individuals who were influential in the founding of the Society. They are, Sir William Herschel, at left, the first President, holding his famous drawing of Uranus and two satellites; Francis Baily, of Baily's Beads fame; and John Herschel, William's son. In the background is the 48-inch Newtonian that Herschel had at his home in Slough, England. -

It is always sad to hear of such news. I do not believe that I ever met George Makris, but, perhaps I was lucky to have met him once at a meeting or star party. I do hope that he is sailing silently and majestically among the stars, viewing all of the wonders that are out there, in all their glory, that He created. Fred -
