  5. I was aware of the space program from an early age as I recall hearing about John Glenn when he went up in his Mercury capsule. That was followed by a few more Mercury mission and then the Gemini program. In 1963 we were visiting Calcutta and they had a planetarium that I wanted to go to but my dad told me me that I was to young to be allowed in. For Christmas of 1965 I received a smal spyglass telescope. I remember going up on the roof in Dacca, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and looking at the stars, not knowing to look for anything specific. I may have looked at the Moon, but don't remember. In 1967 I built a Gemini capsule made by the Revell plastic model company. I still have the box that the model came in as the box cover art of the capsule is very nice. See the image below that I located on the internet, my box is in a closet with other things. By 1969 I was living in Athens and that year they started to run episodes of Star Trek on the YENED TV station. So I started wathching the program. The program got me thinking of all those exotic things out in the universe, which led to my checking out astronomy books from my school library and which led to my mom buying me my first telescope in April of 1971. And the journey continues...

It left a big bruise as can be seen in the photograph. Here is a link to the event. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylacauga_(meteorite) Fred

Real nice image. I see that you have a different hemisphere of Mars shown here. At least the planets are dynamic and always have something new happening in their atmospheres. -Fred
