  1. All Right! I'm glad that someone is able to observe the event and capture images. -Fred

Ic 434 - The Horse Head Nebula (widefield Ha)

That's a really nice image that you have there. Seven and a half hours worth of exposure time and worth every second. Keep 'em coming. -Fred
  3. Light Pollution! Yes, Athens takes the prize being the largest city in the country. From looking at this image, it seems that there is nowhere to hide from light pollutiuon. Something else just crossed my thoughts. The Mediterranean Sea looks quite bright in this image. I went and checked with a lunar phase calendar, and on August 23, 2010 we had a Waxing Gibbous moon and illuminated 99%. I gather if one consults an atlas, they can pick out the names of the cities in Egypt and Libya that are visible on the coast of North Africa.
  4. Yes, the image does show the movement of the ISS. The image data above states that the expsoure time was 0.25 seconds. It would have been nice if the image was totally sharp. I hope that there will be some sharper images to come.

    Greece At Night From Iss

Here is a nice picture of Greece taken from the ISS on August 23, 2010. The view taken north of the country looking to the south. The photograph number is iss024e016042. Just came across the photo yesterday and thought that others would enjoy it too.

    Folded Refractor

He is a nice home made folded refractor. Kodachrome 64 slide at the 1984 RTMC.
  8. Interesting article. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Marvin The Martian comes house calling in December of 2012. Hmmm... If I were from another civilization, I would steer clear of this planet in order to maintain my mental stability. Who wants to put up with a whole bunch of people whining all the time about the smallest things. Enough said. -Fred PS - What is "DNT"?
  9. Hey George, That's ok, you think that the items found on your roof are man made artifacts from welding. No problem, I hope that you have inadvertently whetted the appetites of others into thinking about searching for meteorites, and that is great. -Fred

    Βοήθεια please!!!

Hi, I believe that the free program "Cartes du Ciel", which can be found at this link... http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/el/start , has a Greek Language version too. You can also try Stellarium, which I have found to be an excellent program. It does not have Greek Language support at the current time. It is located at... http://www.stellarium.org/ -Fred
  11. Hi George, I will see if I can translate your posting on google, if not, I will have to read it very slowly to understand it. The subject matter is interesting. I have a small collection myself, but not with pieces so small. Are the lines on your scale at an increment of 1 milimeter? -Fred PS- google did a great job at the translation. I think that your posting will have everyone searching their roofs. I have some magnets and will wait for nicer weather.
  12. I have seen this photgraph before. Might you know where and when it was taken and who are the two persons in the photograph? Thanks. -Fred
  13. There are some nice downloadable USGS lunar maps at this site too... http://www.lpi.usra.edu/resources/mapcatalog/usgs/ Just discovered that a particular type of viewer is required in order to view the 48mb maps. I downloaded the IAS Viewer from this site... http://hiweb.lpl.arizona.edu/iasclient/ The above maps is what I recall from the 1970's and they still seem to be really good maps to me. -Fred

M 1 Crab Nebula. Hubble Palette

Wow! Lots and lots of detail in the Crab and guiding looks very sharp too. I guess the seeing was also in your favor. I give the photo one "Maraclidiko Award" -Fred
  15. I recall seeing the 30-inch scope that the person at faintfuzzies owns, up for sale on Astromart a while back and the price was not that bad. -Fred
  16. Observing and drawing with four pencils in each hand? Yes, that is amazing, and it would have been nice to capture that skill on video, provided that they had video back then.

    Ναός Καρδακίου 510 π.Χ

This is interesting, the site of Kardakiou. Just went a read that there was originally a church on the site. The church was damaged during a storm and that led to the discovery of the ruins. Of course many churches in Greece were built on archaeological sites in order to wean the people away from the old system of gods. One more thing to go and visit the next time that I am in Corfu. -Fred

    Πηλίδα 05 Νοε 2010 - Bill

I have always had the exact idea of doing what you have done above. I just havn't gotten around to doing so. Glad to see that someone else has done it. -Fred
  19. Yes, John Focas was very good at making accurate drawings, that is for sure. Another example of good observing and drawing are the radial spokes in Saturn's rings. They were first drawn through a telescope before being "discovered" by Voyager 1 in 1980. -Fred
  20. I guess observing from a high and cool mountain top during the summer will keep those little blood suckers away. The logistics of getting to the mountain top are another category all its own. Of course, there should be some repellant available on the market that one can apply, in order to keep those pests away. Hmmm... a bio hazard suite with air conditioning would be nice.
