    Mars image 28-09-2005

Hi Dimitri, Well this has got to be one the best Mars images that you have posted and that I have seen-excluding the Mars Orbiter's of course. All this with a web cam-I'm impressed. Keep 'em coming. -Fred
  11. Hi Dimitris, Here is a link to Mineralogical Research Co. in San jose, California. They sell meteorites, minerals, and books. This link will take you to their meteorite books that are available. You can get a good idea of what is out there in the market. I have a copy of "The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Meteorites" by O. R. Norton and it is a wonderful book with a lot of information. "Rocks From Space" also by O. R. Norton is a great book too. It is not as expensive as The Cambridge Encyclopedia. There are some web sites that can also supply you with an abundace of information too. Here is the link for the books... http://www.minresco.com/metbooks/mebook1.htm For information on meteorites, by no means the only place to go to, but a nice starting point, try... http://meteorites.lpl.arizona.edu/ This site a lot of links to dealers, but there is also quit a bit of information available too... http://www.meteorite.com/ Hope this of some help to you. -Fred
  12. Hi Anthony and Indyone, Thanks for the assistance on the fonts and translation. Did download the fonts and now have to learn their usage. Again, thanks you two. -Fred
  13. OK, I will see if I can find Greek fonts for my computer and try to write this in Greek for you. -Fred

Hi Dimitri, Nice image you got there. I guess you are pushing the web cam to its limits. By the way, is this the same image that you had posted previlously that had around 300+ hits on it? I recall seeing one, or did you repost it with corrections? Anyhow, nice shot. I myself bought a web cam to try it out and see what kind of results I can achieve with it. Should be a lot of fun. -Fred
  15. Hi Dionysos, From what I can make out from your images, it looks like you have a tektite. If the image were clearer, it would help out. As you stated, the image is not all that clear. Does the specimen have a "glass-like" structure to it? Does it have any hair-line streaks on it?-this would indicate its passage through the atmosphere while it was still warm. As to it being an iron meteorite, first of all is it relatively heavy for its size? Does it diplay any traces of rust? Does it flake? Getting back to its similarity to a tektite, the closest strewnfields are in the Czech Republic, from where we get Moldavites. These tektites look like green bottle glass in color. The other closest strewnfield is in the southern Libya-Egypt border area. This is where we get Libyan Deseret Glass from and it has a "whiteish color" to it. You can take a higher resolution image of the specimen and forward it to me at my e-mail address which appears at the end of my e-mail if you like. A higher resolution image will help in the analysis of the candidate item. Thanks for posting the images. -Fred
  16. Hi George, I went and downloaded the ftp file and read the article. It was quite informative and pleasing to read. Thanks for bringing it to us viewers attention. Clear Skies, Fred

Dimitri, A very nice image indeed. You better be in Patras in 2007 to show your images at the 5th Panhellenice Astronomy Conference. Don't worry, I'll be reminding you over the next two years. What's our motto... "PATRAS 2007" Yeah! Lets do it Dude, -Fred

  20. I certainly recognize those two guys. David has been attending the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference for years and I first met John at RTMC in 1983 while he was displaying a 6-inch solar reflector. John has given a few talk at our local astronomy club in the Antelope Valley of southern California too. I gather that ngc4565 is Frank?
  21. Hey Anthony, The one that I know of that has lots of electrical stuff is called Aktinion, located at 10 Patission Street in Athens. Parnonas: Star Trails

Hey Anthony, Cool, a few more nice images. I like the "clustered" Pleiades rising above the tree tops and the double cluster in Perseus too. OK, so, any more... (hint-hint)
  24. Hey Anthony, I was wondering if the Baader IR filter might fit the DSI. If not, one might be able take out the actual filter element and transfer it to the Meade holder. I don't think that Meade has a custom size for the filter piece itself. -Fred
