Ah-ha! A very interesting image of the comet. I guess you used color filters for this one? -Fredo

    NGC 4565

Hey Dimitri, Nice shot of 4565. It always reminds me of the "classic" flying saucer shape. Neat. Fred

Lunar Eclipse Aug. 6, 1971 Athens

Glad you all enjoyed the photo. It was hard holding the camera at the eyepiece while taking the images. I still have that 60mm refractor. Did a lot of work with that telescope. The Athens sky was much better then in comparison to what is afforded these days. -Fred
  4. In the distance is the 18-inch Schmidt telescope dome. This was taken from the catwalk that goes around the 200-inch Hale telescope dome. Scanned from a Kodachrome 64 slide. -Fred

Lunar Eclipse Aug. 6, 1971 Athens

I took this photo using the afocal method with my Polarex D60mm and F900mm refractor. Film used was Kodacolor II print film. I believe this film has been out of production for some time-unless the name was changed in the past. Enjoy, Fred

    73P-C- Schwassmann-Wachmann

Dimitri, If you get enough images you can make a time lapse movie of the comet. Fredo
  7. The telescope is located at the Mc Donald Observatory in Western Texas not to far south-east of El Paso.

Dimitri, Another nice image of the comet. The stars sure do look weird since you were guiding on the comet. Fredo
  9. Hey Frank, The Mount Wilson Observatory Association (MWOA) rents the telescope out for $900.00 a night-last time I checked. If memory serves me correct, it can be rented out either to an individual or to a group. If one gets a decent sized crowd, the rate per person is not that bad. -Fred
  10. 1-Yeah, but, Herschel's had a speculum mirror and was altaizmuthly mounted. Of course it was the "meraklidiko" (I believe that is the correct word) telescope of its day. 2-What! ...in your backyard? So, where is this bad boy hiding out at???

Hey Dimitri, Hmmm... M13, I see. Your favorite! Fredo
  12. A digital image of the historic 60-inch reflector at Mt. Wilson, California. At one point it was the largest telescope in the world.

    NGC 2403

Real nice shot there Dimitri. I wish that some of the "bright" foreground stars were not in the way. -Fred
  17. Hi Dimos, I have always liked that rendering from the Cosmos series. Imagine living on a planet high above the galactic plane, it would be an awesome view. I should try to paint a similar scene one day. -Fred
  18. Hey Anthony, This one one came out real nice-a beaut! The color adds to the image. Was wondering if you could post this image as a negative. Negative images are great in showing detail too. Later, Fred

Hi Manos, Nice shot you have there. Seems like you are getting the hang of things. "Any more?" -Fred
  20. Hi Everybody, Just noticed that on spaceweather.com there is a link to Dimitri Kolovos's image of Comet Pojmanski under "more images" on the main page. Nice going Dimitri.

    Comet 2006 A1 (POJMANSKI)

Nice image of the comet. It will be interesting to see if the tail wil get larger. Any more? -Fred
  22. Yeah, sounds about right. Come wave a wad of money in somebodys face and they allways seem to grab it. I just hope that the new owners keep Sky & Telescope the publication that it is and deserves to be. I originally sent in my subscription in December 1971 and have been a subscriber ever since. So much for my two cents worth. Look at Astronomy magazine, the last time that I looked they don't even list the name of that publications founder, Stephen Walther, in the credits. He passed away in the late 1970's-if I remember correctly. Oh well, time marches on... -Fred

    ΟΥΡΑΝΟΣ

Hi Manos, That's a real nice attempt at a hard object. Waiting to see what you come up with next. Keep up the good work there. -Fred
  25. Hi, Looks like you may have caught the planet Venus. You may want to consult a star chart that will show you where Venus was on that particular day and in reference to where you were standing. It does look like you are looking the a Westernly direction-this was taken in the evening? If your timing was lucky, it could be an Iridium satellite, a head-on meteor or even sunlight reflecting off of a high flying aircraft. The enlargement appears to display some lateral movement that might be due to a possible low shutter speed-even though the units flash was used. Hope my two cents worth has been of somehelp to you. My apologies for this being in English, but my attempt to write in Greek would be a cosmic mess. Clear Skies, Fred
